YouTube Idea - DDS
A few weeks ago I came up with a new idea. I call it DDS for short. Which stands for "David Does Stuff."The essential idea is that I make videos of myself doing things and put them all on YouTube.
Ground breaking.
I know.
But there is a little more to it. I often bike around to get exercise, and have recorded many videos of these bike rides. I only put a few of them on YouTube and didn't really feel much motivation to keep putting more of them up, because they just didn't get much attention there.
So I came up with a unique idea. Instead of just posting videos of bike rides, I can post videos of places, such as parks, and link the videos together with navigation markers like a video game.
Example. I make a video walking around the park nearby to me. In that video I overlay numbers in the video where you might want to go a different direction than the way I go in the video ( such as an exit from the park ). I can make a video then and link to it in the description that shows that different direction being travelled.
Also, videos don't have to be -just- travel between or within places. Videos can be of me doing things in/at the locations. Such as if there is a swing in the park, you could select the swing to watch me swinging on it.
Yes this is silly, but, well, so what. It's fun and interesting imo and I think others will see it that way as well.
The idea is essentially using YouTube as an interactive exploration video game, where the world you explore through videos is actually the real world.
Over the past several weeks I've been recording videos to this end and will be editing and posting them on my YouTube. It's going to take a lot of work.
Related to posting more YouTube videos I noticed that many YouTubers talk about the places they are while they are there, instead of dubbing their videos after the fact in post. I tried to do this on one bike ride but my GoPro Hero 8 did not pick up me talking barely at all. So I need a better microphone solution if I am going to do that, at least for bike rides.
I happen to have a DJI Osmo Action 4 camera that I got a while back on sale, and DJI also makes a series of great clip on mics called the "Mic Mini". They work with the action cameras, which is very convenient. So I picked up a DJI Mic Mini 2 and will be using that to talk during videos I make of places going forward.
Some of you who know me have known that I've been thinking about and deliberating on getting serious about my YouTube channel for some years now. It is finally happening! Or at least I have been recording yet more videos that I haven't posted yet.
But I will! Really! How many more years do you have to wait do you ask? Not sure. But really! Lots of videos will be appearing one way or another on my YouTube channel.
This only leaves the following many projects to be done ASAP:
- Make Donkey Free work as a super duper Google Translate replacement ( working on it... slowly... )
- Finalize my video game, TentFires, and release it on Steam and Apple App Store ( it's playable, sort of )
- Finish my implementation of a replacement for Email and Internet Identity, called Userlist ( this is probably the most valuable item on the list for humanity )
- Release my MacOS builds of 0player
- Release my MacOS builds of Strawberry Media Player
- Release the beta of the latest version of ControlFloor, that addresses a bunch of issues
- Root and put Linux on the $8 Kindle FireHD 8 I picked up
- Finish building my spring based stabilizer for an action camera on my bike ( I have the parts... )
Those are at least the things I should be doing that I can remember this second without racking my brain too hard. Just a few things...
