Chrome killed the internet

Are the gears in your head turning yet? Trying to imagine why I think Google Chrome is terrible and is the thing that ruined the internet?

You are thinking it is because Google right? Because of evil Google?

Wrong. Lol.

Chrome killed the internet because... Chrome works well.

"Wait. What?" you say?

Yes. You see, the small web that was useful and dense with valuable information had browsers and computers that worked horribly. The internet was tremendously slow and the software was equally bad and limited.

This led to a focus on information.

Now that we have fast computers and fast browsers where you can reimplement the entirety of system UI and UX in browser apps? That's what people do. Then they throw 50 million ads on top. Then they hijack scrolling. Then they add popups. Then walled gardens.

All made possible by the ever impressive Chrome.

Real time 3d decorations? In browser games in JS? Operating systems compiled to WASM? Video handling in JS + WASM? Oh yes. The almighty Chrome can do it.

And for every added feature, we end up with a worse internet full of painful garbage. With each advnacement, less text and ability to learn what we want from the internet.

With each acceleration? More graphical slop feeds are consumed.

So there you have it. The killer of the modern internet? Google Chrome. Because it's great.
