Add Ads

I have a couple of video games in the works. One of the most recent ones I was talking to a friend of mine about and pondering what I can do to release it and get attention to it initially.

You see one of the problems in releasing any kind of software as a nearly unknown software developer, including games, is that I have no attention just yet, so getting initial recognition is extremely difficult even if my software is awesome.

It's more difficult with games where you want the game isn't free to play. People are hesitant to buy a game with no reviews that costs money from an unknown developer.

So my friend suggested, "You could add ads". Eg, I could make it free to play and ad supported.

My responded to him "Fuck no. Of all the evil in the world ads are one of the worst" and that remains my stance. I think advertisements are an absolute abomination and I will never release "ad supported" software or allow it to be released by my company ( so long as I control the company at least ).

Why am I so against ads? Because they are a waste of human time, and human time is far more valuable than money. It is the one thing we each have a limited amount of. Ads are just an idiotic waste of it.

I'm fine with information about products that you seek out on your own when you want to find products of a certain type and information about them. I am not fine with ads being shoved in your face in the middle of videos you watch, in between video game levels, to get items in video games, that block me from seeing the information I'm actually looking for on websites, etc.

That is, I think ads are just a theft of time from humanity. A shortening of our lifespans in a sense, from every time the ads wasted our time in any way, shape, or form.

To hell with ads. And Google for that matter. You know how much I love them. Them being an ad company does them no favors with me.
